Yup, I decided to learn playing bass guitar. After searching for a good beginner bass I found one with satisfiengly good technical and financial statistics. Though I won’t have much free time before the end of this semester, I’m really looking forward playing it… Well learning it, for starters… Anyway, here’s my Harley Benton HBP120BK:

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

Though recently I had little free time on my hands, I did get to download and install Ubuntu from scratch, then current version was full of some useless garbage, scripts and libraries I really didn’t need. So, I decided to install new 10.04 Ubuntu release from start. Installation process went without a single problem and it lasted less then 5 minutes. After installation everything worked out of box. No problems whatsoever with WiFi, DSL, incompatibility with kernel, non-responsive hibernation, etc ; all of which I had with previous release. Though I made them all work, it’s nice to see them all work with official Linux libraries, including support for iPod 5th generation (worked instantly in Rhythmbox) and great increase in video performance (Wine programs work like a charm).

As for new social apps, well, they’re nice add-on, but I’d prefer much more if I could replace Evolution with Thunderbird as primary mail client and Empathy with Pidgin as primary IM. I’m really beginning to hate Evolution… Switched location of Windows menu buttons was certainly annoying, so I had to get it back right…

Performance of Lucid Lynx is by far greater then its predecessor. I have noticed a great increase in video performance; I pimped Compiz to max for fun. System starts amazingly fast, roughly 10-15 seconds (dis-including Grub & login waiting time) and shuts in 3 seconds. Java still has some issues, but it’s definitely better then before. As always I had issues with Flash on 64bit machines, now I only have such problems when accessing the source file indirectly.

All in all, considering performance, new addons/apps, accessibility and also that this release is also LTS, I’d have to give it A-. I’m already looking forward to 10.10 release, which will hopefully include Grub 3 as well as the ability to change primary apps in Social networking.

DebConf11 in Bosnia & Herzegovina

Well, it’s official, after 4 hours of debating and arguing, the final decision has fallen! Competition was rough but we did it, and all thanks to Adnan! City of Banja Luka will officially host DebConf11!! I’m just glad I got part in the local team, and was able to do as much as I could from so far away. As for the future, I intend to do much more and dedicate myself to this project! Anyway, I want to thank DebConf team for voting fairly, and mostly to Jimmy Kaplowitz for bringing the final decision!

I’m gonna go and celebrate a little with my team mate Veljo, who also had a great part in this!

DebConf11 Decision Meeting

Well, it’s approximately 1 hour before the final decision regarding the DebConf11 is made. So far, our team has done great job in making the presentation and wiki. We are prepared and are eagerly waiting for the start of the bid. Though it’s only an hour left, it feels like a whole day. Again, for those even slightly interested, please check IRC channel: #debconf-team. The moment the decision falls, I’ll write another post. Anyway, off to make a sandwich and grab some snacks; bid may take more than 3 hours… Just to be sure :)…

DebConf11 bid

Well, 3 more days left until the final decision of DebConf Team regarding the DebConf11 bid. The bid will be held on 27^th February and will probably last several hours. The time of the bid is 17:00h (normal GMT). The meeting will occur in channel #debconf-team on irc.debian.org (aka irc.oftc.net) in English.

So far, there are only 3 proposals in bid: Bosnia & Herzegovina, Germany and Ecuador. We’ve decided to go with Banja Luka as the city where it will be held, Germany with Munich and Ecuador with Quito. To be honest, competition is tough, Germany has quite a local team, and so does the Ecuador. BUT, we did hell of a job, preparing our presentation for the bid, and all thanks to one man, who made this possible Adnan Hodzic aka AbsintheSyringe. Wiki is ready, team is ready and tons of new proposals and sponsors are showing up. Not to be a pessimist, but we have quite a stronger and more prepared bid presentation.

So here we are, waiting for a final decision to fall. I really do hope we will get this bid, not only for Bosnia and IT.ers, but for the whole Balkan and all those who’re even slightly interested in filed of Information Technologies. Anyone interested:

C’mon Foolz Productions in Development

It’s been a while, but finally I had a few days to myself. Last night I went with some friends into a club, it was fanceeeey… Anyway, Bruno and I talked about our last sketch (Tik Tak), and after a few beers decided to make some more, not only because it was entertaining, but working on it was real fun and joy. Right now, we’re only in planning stages, but I’ll buy a domain and set us up a brand new website. Afterwards, we’re planing on making some sketches first, finding people to work with it. Also, due to the lack of funds, the quality will not be like the previous example. When we worked on Tik Tak, we got great equipment from our University, but only because it was project for University itself. All that we make from now on, will be filmed with our own camera. Fortunately it has HD capabilities…

To make it perfectly clear, we’ll do most of our sketches in our own Language, but we maybe get a chance to make some on English or German… If you’re interested in helping out, just use Contact form, we’re looking for some help… and your filming equipment ;). Ideas are also welcome, so send any you have, we just might make it. Also, I’m looking for someone to make a sort of ‘abstract and alternative’ template for WordPress, which will be used for official website. Until I set up new site for C’mon Foolz Productions, use my own Contact form to get in touch…

Server changes in progress

Server has been changed. However, most of the data is still being uploaded. To all those people, who’s sites I host, I apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. I only ask for patience and understanding, this is very hard and tiresome process. There’s ton of the data, so upload may take up to 4 to 6 hours. Also, for full DNS changes to take place, it may take up to 24 hours, meaning you’re domain will not be accessible. As for data loss, I backed up my previous server this morning at 7am (+0 GMT), so no data previous to that point will be lost. Anything afterwards, will no longer be available.

My thoughts on Late Night fued

Unfortunately, due to my lack of free time, I never got to comment on the Conan-Leno controversy. Anyway…
Seriously NBC? Seriously? I’m great fan of late night shows and TV comedy in general. I watched Conan O’Brien when he was on Late Night, and I watched every single episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. I like his humor and sketches, and can most certainly call myself a great fan! Now, not to be unfair, I also watched sometimes Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, and some other comedy hosts, but Conan is the one who made me laugh the most. So, after just 7 months, NBC decided to screw him over, by giving Jay Leno his show back. They said it was due to low ratings. Yeah, business stuff… For those who are not familiar with this issue, this pretty much sums it up:

NBC decided to give this old grumpy multimillionaire, named Jay Leno, his own show, and to pass The Tonight Show to Conan O’Brien. This meant, moving entire families (O’Brien family, the whole Late Night crew and their families, and Band) from NY to LA. Unfortunately, ratings dropped for both shows, so big rich faggots at NBC, decided to switch time slots, by moving The Tonight Show after midnight, which would be weird, considering it’s no longer ‘tonight’. As a men of character and principle, Conan declined, stating it would devastate The Tonight Show, ratings would drop even more, and he would be forced to push a time slot of his successor, Jimmy Fallon, at The Late Night sometime after 1am. On the other hand, the old prick acted all surprised and innocent, as if there was nothing he could do about… emmm wait, how about QUITING? Normally, I wouldn’t be this harsh, but this guy is boooooooooooooring, his jokes lame and as far as I know, the only group of people who can stand him are senior citizens; also, he’s 60 at the moment, so he’ll be retiring soon. Only 7 months after hosting the show, Conan was forced to quit, spending most of the time in legal battles with NBC. At least he and his crew got $45m out of it…

In conclusion:

To guys at NBC: You’re are ignorant morons!
To Jay Leno: You old prick, I hope your ratings drop so low, that… oh wait, you’re on NBC right… never mind, it already came true…
To Conan, Andy and Max: Guys, I hope I see you soon. I really do hope you’ll do another show in September!

Gallery is back

Gallery is working again, though no template integration is intended. It somehow affects some of the pure cpg functions. It also broadens the view, so I’m keeping it this way. Anyway, upload is at 90%, most of the images are already available at gallery, others should be very soon. I included small widget on the frontpage to show 5 random images from the gallery. As promised, I’m out of hosting business for good, but I’ll definitely keep the domains; I still have a few projects in mind.
